Father Dies, Daughter Lives

I felt sad after reading a heartbreaking story. A dad died to save his daughter.

I was checking out Yahoo! News until I came across the item. It happened in Japan during a recent weekend blizzard.

Here’s what the story first said:

A father froze to death while sheltering his nine-year-old daughter from severe weekend blizzards that swept northern Japan, two years after her mother died, reports said Monday.

Mikio Okada died as he tried to protect his only child Natsune against winds of up to 109 kilometres (68 miles) per hour, as temperatures plunged to minus 6 Celsius (21 Fahrenheit).

I slightly…cried after reading that. The story went on that the little girl’s mother died years ago due to a lingering illness, so she’s essentially an orphan until someone else takes her in.

I honestly don’t know if I can do the same with my own daughter. But if push came to shove, then…I won’t hesitate to protect her even if it meant losing my own.

I then said a short prayer for both of them, both for the repose of Mr. Okada’s soul and that the girl gets loving and proper care after.
